Two things are very important to us. One is to call this what it is: a coup. The other: now, what do we do? There has been a lot of talk about what will work and won’t in the time of Trump. We like this Zine as a starting point.
“Just Don’t Do Nothing” is by Jewish anarchists: alice, asher, cat, chanaleh, cindy, cindy barukh, hannah, jhaavo, lilli, mazel, scarab, simcha, and vicky. They list 20 things that folks can do. Our favorite? “Make people soup and do not stop inviting them over for soup! Be a reason for living.” We love cooking for people, and it’s a great way to build community. Not big on soup? Have a regular potluck. We are going to need each other.
So have a potluck, invite a bunch of people over, and send them this Zine first. Tell everyone to read it (it’s not long) and then discuss it over food. Identify which actions resonate with each other. It will be the start of a conversation you will continue throughout the year.
And if anyone isn’t sure if this is really a coup? Tell them. It’s a coup.
