One of the reasons Donald and Elon can pull off their coup in broad daylight is because the media has failed us. We are being “there are good people on both sides” to death. NY Times, CNN, and even MSNBC are barely scratching the surface of what is going on. “Where am I supposed to get my news?”
Democracy Now! is a great start.
Democracy Now! is a daily news hour hosted by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González. They have a policy of not accepting government funding or corporate sponsorship. Instead, it is audience-supported. And perhaps that is why they have the freedom to report on things like Gaza in a way other news programs shy away from.
While it was initially launched as a radio show, and you can still listen to it on stations across the US, we download it as a podcast. There is a quick rundown of the day’s news, sure. Then, we get in-depth reporting on issues like the civil war in the DNC. Did you know that your dating website knows about rapists on its platform but hasn’t told you? We sure didn’t. That is, we didn’t until we learned about it on Democracy Now!
What we are experiencing is a uniquely American moment and coup, sure. But without the international context of Democracy Now!, it’s easy to forget that our struggles are connected. None of what happens does so in a vacuum. Democracy Now! helps provide that context, as well as in-depth reporting that will help remind you that, yes, we are in a coup.
